Do you sometimes think your life didn’t turn out the way you wanted it to? “If only X happened or Y didn’t, things would be much better for me today.” “I am so unlucky, only bad things happen to me.” ”People are out to get me.” Or ”Why can’t I be more successful at my job? Money? Love?”
Any of the above sound familiar? All of the above have negative connotations but they all have a common denominator - You. I’m also here to tell you that every good thing that’s happened all have one thing in common also - this again is you.
This means there’s good news and bad news. The good news is you are responsible for the things in your life you’re proud of. You’ve made wise choices and they’ve had a positive effect (You performed well at your job the past six months which led to a raise). On the flip side, the bad stuff is also related to the choices you’ve made (You celebrated by buying a car that you can’t afford and you’re struggling to make payments).
So what’s the point then? The point is that to take control of your life, you have to take ownership of the decisions that you’ve made. Both good AND bad.
It’s a good thing you think things should be better for you, recognizing the need for change is the first step. Taking responsibility and ownership of your choices is next. Sounds simple, no? It is. The problem is a lot of people fail to recognize that every action has consequences. Since you will be doing so from now on you’ll have a leg up on everyone else. Neat-O!
When you start taking responsibility for your actions, you hold yourself accountable. As a result, you start to think things through instead of jumping in head first. You’ll begin to weigh the pros and cons before you make a decision. You begin to take control.
Oh and one other thing - Nobody is out to get you, other people already have too much on their hands. They’re probably wondering why their lives didn’t turn out the way they wanted it to.
Thanks for reading.
